Artist-In-Residence Program

From October through May, the Guild invites developing artists for cohort-based residency sessions.

The Grünewald Guild’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program is available to individuals:

  • at all levels of artistic development,

  • who are prepared to work independently, and,

  • whose artistic processes can be successfully supported by the Guild’s studio facilities.

Upcoming Residency Sessions

Artists are invited to apply to any number of the cohort sessions. In order to build a strong sense of community among resident cohorts, we ask that all residents plan to arrive and depart on the dates indicated. See below for upcoming residency sessions.

  • “I cannot recommend the Grünewald Guild to an individual pursuing the arts — young and old alike — enough. From the moment you step foot at the Guild, you are welcomed with encouraging community and the serenity of the Washington Cascades. In the beginning stages of my aspiring career as an artist, the Guild was the perfect oasis away to focus and dedicate time to honing my skills while also exploring new avenues of creativity. The Guild seems to draw wanderers in; giving them a safe space to explore the beauty of art an their own becoming.”

    Julie Hunkler, 2021 AiR

  • “I made 15 paintings during my residency at Grünewald. I’m not sure how to describe that sort of productivity other than to say that the Guild is magical. Creativity is everywhere with artwork… from thirty years of people working here. I was welcomed to the program with open arms… I’ve been looking at other residency opportunities for the coming year and compared to the Guild, most others seem kind of dull!”

    Niki Sherey, 2013 AiR

  • “The Guild was the perfect place to fulfill a life long dream: the production of a musical album. The authenticity of the community, combined with the dreamy ambiance of the Plain Valley, allow for a rich experience in creation… and self reflection.”

    Tristan Bach, 2012 AiR

  • Maybe you have a creative project to share with the world
