For over 30 years the Grünewald Guild has served as a creative and innovative example to the world of the transformative power of art and the sacred within the context of community. We are an ecumenical Christian community that embraces people of all journeys and traditions, serving as a sanctuary for their exploration of art, faith and the mystery of creation.

It has become a tradition here at the Guild to hold a series of Advent Weekends, short weekend retreats leading up to Christmas. This year we are offering three different retreats, each featuring a different live concert on Saturday evening. The weekends also offer an art class (hand-made clay paper ornaments) and a lecture by Richard Caemmerer each Friday where he will share art and thoughts about the Advent season. This is a great opportunity to experience the 'winter wonderland' of Plain and to take a break from the busy holiday season.
For more information about each retreat or to register, visit our Courses page.

For those of you who were with us this summer, you heard about the partnership we are forming with The Apparent Project, an organization that is working to apprentice and employ Haitian artists and serve as a vehicle for the selling of their artwork. Seeking to create art, jewelry and craftware that is 100% Haitian made and allow families to be self-sufficient, they approached us looking for a ceramicist who could help teach Haitian artists how to create and fire ceramic beads for the jewelry they produce. As a result, our resident ceramic artist Scott Dillman will be heading to Haiti in November for 2 weeks to work with the Apparent Project and their aritsts, and then participate in a follow-up trip in February. We look forward to this growing partnership and are excited to play such a direct role in the livelihoods not only of Haitians, but of artists.
The stained glass inset of one of our new doors being fashioned for the Guild entryway project. Once completed, the glass insets will be surrounded by enameled plates that will create one large image consisting of native butterfly species, prayer labyrinths and Celtic motifs and cast an incredible quality of light into the gathering area of the Centrum.
