For over 30 years the Grünewald Guild has served as a creative and innovative example to the world of the transformative power of art and the sacred within the context of community. We are an ecumenical Christian community that embraces people of all journeys and traditions, serving as a sanctuary for their exploration of art, faith and the mystery of creation.

Guild Happenings - December 2011

"The cold was our pride, the snow was our beauty.
It fell and fell, lacing day and night together in a milky haze,
making everything quieter as it fell, so that winter
seemed to partake of religion in a way no other season did, hushed, solemn."
- Patricia Hampl

2012 Guild Calendar Now Available!

Our 12-month calendar is now available for you to order.  Those with current or renewed memberships will receive the calendar as a gift...but you can also order a copy (or more) through our MagCloud store.  The prominent dates follow the liturgical rythms of the church year, as well as the Guild's summer schedule.  Featuring works from 13 different Guild artists and faculty members, this calendar is a great way to stay inspired throughout the year and makes a great gift with which to bless others and introduce them to the Grünewald Guild.

Scott Returns from Haiti

Scott returned this week after 2 weeks in Haiti!  Learn about our partnership with The Apparent Project and the work that has begun to enable Haitian artists to create and produce their own ceramic wares in a new blog post on our Scriptorium.

Advent Weekends

This weekend begins the first of three Advent weekend retreats we have organized for you to get away and enjoy.  Each weekend features a variety of Advent-inspired activities and a different concert each time.  There is still room in each, so if you are feeling the urge to visit our winter campus and "partake of religion" in a way no other season quite allows, you can register online or by contacting us here at the office.

Icon Writing Workshop

January 9-13, 2012

There is still space available in our upcoming icon writing workshop being taught by icon writer Peter Pearson, who will take you step-by-step through the fascinating and illuminating process of icon writing (i.e. painting).  If you are local to the Guild and would like to take the class, we offer a tuition-only fee.  Contact us at the office for more information, or register through the website.

Staying Plugged In: How & Why

Over this past year we have created a handful of ways by which you can stay plugged in and informed with what we're doing here at the Guild.  We thought it might be helpful to break these down so that you can stay up-to-date in the ways you enjoy most:

Newsletter - This is a low-volume, monthly e-mail that highlights upcoming classes, workshops and major topics of interest here at the Guild.  It can be subscribed to by entering your e-mail address in the correct place at the bottom of our homepage...and you can easily unsubscribe by clicking an "unsubscribe" link within the newsletter itself.

Facebook - Through our page on Facebook we provide a bit more information about what's going on here at the Guild, including photos of the campus and people throughout the seasons.  This allows people to comment and interact as well, and facilitates a bit more of the "community" feel for which we are so very well known.  You can visit our Facebook page HERE.

Blog/Scriptorium - Our blog serves as more of a showcase or gallery of life here at the Guild, including thoughts on art and faith and creativity.  As you scroll its posts and pages you may find videos of us cutting down our annual Christmas tree, photos from summer classes, inspirational quotes regarding art/faith, or thoughts on a variety of topics that come up in conversations and classes here.  You can visit our blog by clicking HERE.

Twitter - For those of you who are most mobile, you can follow us on Twitter at @grunewaldguild.  Our Facebook page is linked to our Twitter account, so anything that gets posted to Facebook is automatically published via Twitter.

Website - Our website is the best place to find out what classes and offerings are coming up and is a great reference for all things Grünewald (what to bring, what to expect, how to get here, lodging/meal prices, etc.).  The slideshow on the homepage changes frequently depending on what offerings we have coming up, and the three windows toward the bottom keep you up-to-date on what's occuring next, the latest announcements and the newest post on our Scriptorium.  Our Classes & Workshops page (under the Registration tab) is updated as we secure workshops and retreats, so be sure to check back often to see what new classes we will be offering!

A Hearty Thank-You

As we close out this calendar year, we want to extend a heart-felt thank you to those who have responded to our membership renewal appeal, as well as those who have made plans to attend our upcoming winter offerings.  Winter is a difficult time of year for the Guild as activity (and therefore revenue for our operating expenses) declines.  Your membership donations (and even purchasing a Guild calendar) are extremely important in allowing us to continue operating as smoothly as possible during these months when things are more quiet.  Thank you for your continuing generosity--may you be blessed this season of Advent.

If you would like to help support us but have not yet had a chance, you can do so by becoming a member or donating through our website.  You can also purchase a 2012 Guild calendar or, best of all, come and participate in one of winter offerings!
