Advent and Expectation: December at the Grünewald Guild

May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope;
The spirit of Christmas which is peace;
The heart of Christmas which is love.

- Ada V. Hendricks

Most of you have probably received our recent annual appeal letter.  It follows close on the heals of another appeal we made for a campus renovation project (all of the funds for which were raised!) just a few short months ago.  With this second letter, we wanted to appeal in a different way, because for those of you who have visited or been part of the Guild, you know it is a different sort of place.  People most frequently refer to us as "community" or their "home away from home."

We are a place of invitation and welcome, rest and renewal.  And so part of our appeal this year is that you come and stay with us this December during the season of Advent to rekindle your creativity and take in the quietness that the snow-laden campus of the Guild has to offer.  We have worked to create three different weekends during this season of Advent in order to facilitate renewal and meditation on the hope and expectation this season has to offer.  We hope that you'll take the time to make your way here during this all too busy time--let us welcome you and provide the space you need to breath and experience all the hope, peace and love this season has to offer.

Advent Weekend I

December 2-4

$185/person (includes lodging meals, art workshop & concert)

Beginning with dinner on Friday evening, we will consider the season of Advent through a guest lecture with Guild co-founder Richard Caemmerer as he speaks about the season and shows various pieces of art that communicate this season of expectation.  Saturday consists of an art project session with Guild potter Scott Dillman who will lead a workshop in creating ornaments through the molding of clay paper.  The afternoon is unstructured, allowing you time to relax or, if you choose, do some cross-country skiing at our new local ski track in 'downtown' Plain (you will also receive a ticket for a free espresso drink at the Hardware when you arrive).  That evening there will be a special live acoustic concert with musician Terry Holder.  The weekend concludes on Sunday with an Advent morning prayer and brunch together.

You can register for this weekend on our website or by contacting us at the office.

Advent Weekend II

December 9-11

$185/person (includes lodging, meals, art workshop & concert)

The format of this weekend is the same as the previous one, with just a single exception: the evening concert will feature Beth Whitney.  You can register for this weekend on our website or by contacting us at the office.

Advent Weekend III

December 16-18

$137/person (excludes $22/concert and dinner in Leavenworth)

Our third and final Advent weekend is quite a bit different than the previous two: there is still a dinner and lecture on Friday night, but Saturday includes much more 'free time' than the previous two weekends.  There is still an opportunity for cross country skiing or just resting at the Guild.  There will not, however, be a Saturday evening dinner provided.  During this weekend we encourage guests to attend the Christmas Lighting Celebration in nearby Leavenworth and have dinner in town, taking in all the festivities.  Our concert will also be in Leavenworth that evening, featuring Celtic Christmas at the Canyon Wren Recital Hall of the Icicle Center for the Arts.  Performances of Celtic Christmas are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  The weekend will conclude with an Advent morning prayer on Sunday, followed by brunch.

You can register for this weekend on our website or by contacting us at the office.

We hope that you will consider joining us sometime during this next month of December as we celebrate together in the joyful expectation of the new creation that chose to walk among us...the Messiah, the Chosen One.  Jesus the Christ.

Your support of the Grünewald Guild and participation in our community, in whatever form it may take, is exceedingly appreciated.
