About Guild Retreats

Past visitors say about their Guild retreat experience:

"I felt safe and cared for, respected in both solitude and fellowship."

"It felt like home - inviting, warm, cozy, & comfortable."

"This is a VERY welcoming community [that] makes everyone feel welcome & included."

Our beautiful campus, cozy facilities, and affordable rates make the Grünewald Guild an ideal location for your individual retreat. The Guild's inclusive community offers space for individuals to rest and reflect, focus on a sabbatical project, explore the natural world, or express their creativity in one of our art studios.

We welcome guests on individual retreat from September - May at any time when housing is available. If you visit during other programming, we may be able to offer meal service; at all other times, retreat guests have access to a refrigerator and microwave and are encouraged to bring their own meals. Art studio space may be available for an additional fee.

And of course, our stunning location and rambling campus in the North Central Cascades provides an ideal backdrop for your retreat experience, offering inspiration for creative work and reflection, as well as rest and recreation.

Although many individual retreat guests desire privacy and seclusion, we can also offer a range of creative, relaxing, and contemplative activities to enhance your retreat experience.

Individual Art Lessons

One-on-one instruction is available for both beginners and experienced artists, and may be customized to your particular needs and interests. Regular offerings include ceramics, paper-making, weaving, mosaics, and creative writing. Additional offerings change depending on the expertise of our current artists-in-residence. Pricing starts at $35/hour; please contact the office for availability & scheduling.

Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is a caring relationship in which the director (or mentor, companion or soul friend) listens to the stories and heart of another or sees the story and heart in another’s creative work.   Listening and responding, she/he stands with the seeker and helps clarify what has been given and may respond with some focusing questions or thoughts.  It is a sacred space where we “lean together into God” - a space of complete confidentiality and of awareness of the presence of the Holy One.  This relationship can be helpful in the Guild environment of community, retreat, and creativity.  It gives the freedom to slow down, breathe deeply and listen to our own longings and hopes. Spiritual Direction is available with Guild Founder Liz Caemmerer.  Contact the office for availability & costs.
